05/1978 Hotlanta is one of the best bands I’ve ever played with. From left to right: Stan Henley (drums and vocals), George Rizov (electric bass guitar), Bob Curtis (tenor saxophone), Sheri Jarrel Henley (lead vocals), David Martin (trumpet), Rod Henley (keyboards), Spencer Mallinson (electric guitar) and Wayne Starnes (trombone). Burn, baby burn, Disco Inferno: Check out the hot flaming disco outfits that we were wearing! We also had a white uniform that was similar, although the shirts had holes in them that revealed some of the “Macho Man” hair on our chest, particularly mine and especially Spencer’s. My first gig with Hotlanta was at Giovanni’s in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire. I still recall a cute girl who came up to me and told me we were the best band that ever played there. When she asked me how many years we had been together, I replied “two weeks”. That’s how long we rehearsed in preparation for this gig and we also threw together a show at the last minute. After our gig in New Hampshire, Hotlanta performed at other clubs including The VIP Club in Springfield, Massachussetts; The Cellar in Portland, Maine; The Mutiny at the Best Western Turf Inn in Albany, New York; the Red Carpet Lounge in Cahokia, Illinois; The 4th Dimension in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Studio 54 New York, New York in Pompano Beach, Florida. Aside from a few cruise ship gigs, this was the only time in my music career that I went on the road with a band.
