I began transcribing music in 9th grade when Mr. Blum, my band teacher asked me to write out some of his compositions. He was very impressed by my penmanship and indicated that my music writing was one of the neatest he had ever seen. Since then, I have written many arrangements and transcriptions. I have also done music copy work. I originally did all this by hand and my penmanship was always very clear and meticulous. Since the advent of music notation software, I have used programs like Finale, Encore as well as my very own music notation software to do what I once did by hand. By transcribing parts for the various instruments I play, I am able to play the parts very accurately and can make them sound just like the original record. My many transcriptions have allowed me develop a very large repertoire, which can cover a wide variety of music. The many lead sheets, horn parts and chord charts I have written are not only useful for my own needs but also for the entire band.
